We have quite a few big things coming up! Between a surprise birthday trip, a trip to North Carolina with our friends, a cruise to Nassau, St. Thomas, and St. Maarten, and tons of other surprises up our sleeves, we are slammed and need to save money for all of the festivities. But, I believe that dating is important before and (especially after) marriage, so instead of just sitting on the couch in front of our TV, Ian and I brainstormed many different ways to have an inexpensive summer date together. We thought of going to the pool, eating our way through Krog Street Market, or Ponce City Market (which are two inexpensive food halls in Atlanta), and finally, we landed on taking a hike!
I know that taking a hike might seem like a terrible idea to some in the summer heat, but hear me out. First of all, in most places, hiking is free, which is great. Also, Ian and I have been working really hard to stay active this summer. If you didn’t know, we currently work out with a personal trainer three times a week and we have been trying to eat healthy 80% of the time. So, hiking is not only a great way for us to spend time together, but it’s also a great way to stay active.
We have been having some hot, hot, hot weather in Atlanta lately, so when Ian first suggested the hike, I was thinking the same thing as some of you are, “A hike in this weather?! I don’t think so.” But, he convinced me to go by telling me that we could pick up some snacks on the way and afterward to reward ourselves, so off we went on an inexpensive summer date: a hike with a picnic!
I have been hiking plenty of times but when you add in some humid Georgia weather, it’s a completely different story. That’s why I wanted to write this post for you all. Below, you will find three tips on how you can have a really great time on a hike in the summer. Maybe you will want to go on this inexpensive summer date, too! Check out my tips:
Come Prepared
Ian and I always bring some sort of a bag to carry some essentials in. Snacks (in this case we picked up the Flamin’ Hot Cheetos® for the hike and a Mango Fire Froster® on our way home), sunscreen, waters, bug spray, etc. If you are severely allergic to bees, you might want to bring an epi. Just think about everything that will make your life more comfortable along the hike and make sure to bring it. If you bring extra water, you can pour it on top of your head to stay cool, like I did, but if you do this, please remember to save enough water to actually drink. It’s very important to make sure you are drinking enough water in this heat. Getting very dehydrated could take your inexpensive summer date and turn it into a very expensive one.
Have A Picnic
Here’s where the date aspect comes into play (although I consider the entire day to be a date)! After our hike, we decided to pick up another sweet treat to reward ourselves. I really wanted an icy cold drink, so we decided to make it extremely easy and convenient and stopped at Circle K on our way home. We picked up some Flamin’ Hot Cheetos® and a Mango Fire Froster®, which were so good. The Mango Fire Froster® is a limited time offer at Circle K® stores and you are going to want to try it, for sure! The taste was really fun because it started off sweet and ended with a little bit of spice. It was perfect for a hot day, especially after hiking the local mountain!
Luckily, Ian and I were able to enjoy these snacks before and after the hike, keeping us motivated throughout the day! Bring a cheesy, spicy crunch to snack time with a bag of Crunchy Flamin’ Hot Cheetos®, or a Mango Fire Froster® along with you and you are sure to have a fun picnic. There is also a new limited-time flavor of Cheetos® out called Flamin’ Hot Chipotle Ranch Cheetos® and I cannot wait to try it! It features the same spice and crunch as regular Flamin’ Hots, but with the flavor of smoky chipotle peppers and creamy ranch.
Have Fun Along The Way
The most important part of all is to have fun! Although this is an out of the box date idea and it is midsummer, you can and should still have fun. Ian and I are really goofy and make sure that we bring that sense with us, no matter what we are doing. It just makes any situation more fun and happy. I get that it’s hot, but so what? That’s life! You cannot keep yourself limited to the indoors during the summer because then you are not really experiencing life. A great example that I always think about is our trip to Italy. It was blistering hot outside, but if we would have decided to stay indoors during our trip because of the heat, we would have missed so many great restaurants, tours, cities, and so much history. We had the time of our lives and it definitely had to do with our mindset (and well, we were in Italy!). My point in telling you that short story is this: do not let factors that you cannot change affect you. Have fun and make those memories, even if it is hot!
What do you think? Would you go on a hike as an inexpensive summer date? We had a blast and I highly recommend it! If you are interested in having some Flavored Frozen Fun, don’t forget to pick up the new Mango Fire Froster® at your local Circle K! In fact, for a limited time only, you can have a Sizzlin’ combo for only $2.50 when you buy a Mango Fire Froster® & Flamin’ Hot Cheetos®, an exclusive and limited time offer only found at Circle K.
